Wacken Open Air XXIV

Wacken (Germany)

(Pentax K-5 with Sigma AF 70-200mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)

The sun was now high up in the sky and in front of the stages it was getting unendurable. Of course the band Eisbrecher could obviously score with their coolness factor in person of frontmen Alexx Wesselsky (known to many by broadcasts like "Der Checker" or "Fort Boyard"), but that did not help much in cooling down. Quite the contrary.
With his congenial sidekick Noel Pix Seibert they know to convice since already 10 years with rocking sounds. But not hard riffs are in the foreground but instead synthesizer are taking over the main part of the pushing work. You could hear an interesting cross section across their former albums. No matter if it was the opener "Exzess Express", "Antikörper" or "Heilig", each song was celebrated by the audience. Supported were the two band leaders by Jürgen Plangger on guitar, Achim Färber on drums as well as Maximilian Schauer on keyboards and Rupert Keplinger on bass. A little bit folkloric it was getting during "This Is Deutsch" when Wesselski was putting on a gamsbart hat and wearing a traditional jacket to ironically melodize the so called German virtues. Latest during "Verrückt" it was getting too warm for him and he was presenting himself topless (I cannot hold something against that due to the temperatures). The completion was formed by a new version of the Megaherz song "Miststück" (the heads of this band were the former leader of Megaherz) which was heating up the crowd even more (if there would have been a need for...).
What remains after the gig? Funny relaxed German synthie rock to hear. A band that was really up fot it and an audience supporting them appropriate. Great atmosphere but to the end I was really happy that I could recover a little bit with a water in the shadow when waiting for the next band on True Metal Stage.
