02.08.2018 Die From Sorrow

Wacken Open Air XXIX

Wacken (Germany)

(Pentax K-5 with Sigma AF 70-200mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)

Thursday started just like Wednesday at the tent with the Metal Battle bands. With Die From Sorrow the Chinese winner entered the stage and within the short amount of time that the guys was offered they could fully convince with their melodic death metal. But after yesterday when there were quite a lot of people there, today it was like all the years before. The track of people in front of the stage to that time was quite manageable.
Though the later winner of the Metal Battle did not deserve that. Singer and guitarist Bin Liu was giving everything just like his fellows. Ruixin Zhang was posing again and again with his guitar whipping one solo after the other on his strings and bassist Shengjun Gu, keyboarder Peixin Liu as well as drummer Depei Kong were supporting them with might and main. The songs were powerful and straight forward animating the audience directly to join in. The band exists already since 2006 and especially with their latest album “Lord Of The Alien Seas” shining from all banners on stage they acquired already certain reputation at the Chinese metal scene. I liked it very much and am of the opinion that they fully deserved the victory at the Metal Battle because here also the overall concept of show and music was coherent. The audience was of the same opinion as accompanied by big applause the guys left the stage at the end of their set and one would have liked to hear the one or the other additional song.
