15.08.2023 Bleed From Within
Junkyard at Dortmund (Germany)
(Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II)
After it had been quite changeable across the day it was getting sunny towards the evening and so the guys of the Scottish band Bleed From Within could enter the stage at best weather. The Junkyard provided a worthy setting for the upcoming hours due to its unusual setup of the location (everything outside was built from old containers and scrap). Because also Trivium and Heaven Shall Burn were on the agenda it unfortunately had to start very early at 18:15 in order to satisfy the noise protection requirements for the open-air concert.
Directly the opener “Stand Down” from the latest album “Shrine” made clear that an official demolition was upcoming. Singer Scott Kennedy was beating his growls round peoples head and Steven Jones on guitar was complementing this nicely with his clean vocals. What was not so nice for the band was that they had during the whole concert to directly look into the sun. Therefore there was not much movement needed in order to get wet of sweat. For that reason the mood on and especially in front of the state was way better. Kennedy was motivating the crowd on and on which would not have been needed at all. Unfortunately, they only had very limited time for their set but at least six songs of the last two albums “Shrine” and “Fracture” could find their place. Towards the end the atmosphere was at its boiling point and Scott Kennedy could not be held on stage anymore. He threw oneself into the crowd, was carried on hands and performed the final song “The End Of All We Know” from there.
Wow, what a brute energy! And the evening had just begun. I did not know the Scots beforehand although they already exist since 2005. But each single second was worth it and the audience was celebrating them with good reason when after a little bit more than half an hour they had to stop. The evening nevertheless should continue with two more highlights which won’t be long in the coming.
