17.10.2009 Midnattsol
Metal Female Voices Fest VII
Oktoberhallen Wieze (Belgium)
Already last year Midnattsol should perform on the Metal Female Voices Fest, but they got stuck in a traffic jam and had to cancel. This year, the Norwegian/German band arrived at time at the festival but lead singer Carmen Elise Espenaes (the sister of Leaves‘ Eyes lead singer Liv Kristine) had a virus infection and was due to that not in full possession of her voice (it was clearly audible when she was talking to the audience).
But that did not do the atmosphere any harm, quite the contrary. When the voice of Carmen was not strong enough, the audience took over. Leading parts on stage were clearly Carmen and on bass Birgit Öllbrunner, what did not come up to the guys (Daniel Droste and Alex Kaust on the guitars, Chris Merzinsky on the drums and Daniel Fischer on the keyboard), because all were offering a really great show. For Alex Kaust it was additionally a premiere playing with Midnattsol, replacing Fabian Pospiech who had left the band.
All in all a good concert, despite a 100% healthy Carmen would have been even better. By the way, they were honored with the MFVF Award for the greatest hope.
