01.08.2018 Backyard Babies
Wacken Open Air XXIX
Wacken (Germany)
(Pentax K-5 with Sigma AF 70-200mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)
During Nazareth it was already very moody, but the four guys of Backyard Babies let the air burn inside the tent (of course only in a transferred sense). The Swedish had classic punk / hard rock brought with them and let directly know everyone inside the unfortunately slightly emptied tent what their mission was on that evening: To get really everybody inside this tent moving!
Founded already in 1989 Peder Carlsson (guitar and vocals), Johan Blomquist (bass), Anders Tyrone Dregen (guitar) and Nicke Borg (drums) played together since then unchanged. The forceful songs offered something really to everyone, no matter if it was “Dysfunctional Professional” of the album “People Like People Like People Like Us” or “Th1rt3n or Nothing” of the latest album “Four By Four”. Of each of their meanwhile seven released albums at least one song was played. Especially the two guitarists Carlsson and Dregen delivered a really energetic show during which they encouraged the audience again and again to follow them (which was actually superfluous). The crowd was just like the guys on stage permanently moving.
Before this gig I did not know the Swedish at all although they are already in business for nearly 30 years (the first album “Diesel And Power” was at least released back in 1984). But this infectious gig really deeply impressed me so that I can without doubt recommend everybody to take the opportunity to watch them live once they are around. It is definitely worth it!
