A nice evening in November 2019 and lots of people in front of the Turock at Essen. A sold out venue to the tour of their first album of John Diva And The Rockets Of Love “Mama Said Rock Is Dead” with Rosy Vista as support act.
It was 2014 when I first got to know the lively company on the Wacken Open Air. To that time without much expectations, they exceeded them significantly. And so I insisted on going to watch them another time. After the mood was already excellent after Rosy Vista, John Diva really managed to gather speed even more. The history of the band left aside. How much truth really is in the soapy story that grows around the founding of the band is anyone’s guess. 2014 I got to know them as a really great cover band of all great bands like Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe, Van Halen and this part of course did not disappear after release of their first album. It was still a quite significant part of their show which is a good thing. But this was added by great songs like “Whiplash”, “Lolita” or also “Rock ‘N Roll Heaven” that went stylistic into the same direction.
Of course besides proper designed stage outfits in sleaze rock design with scarves, hats, gloves and America flags also the female component in terms of cheerleader may not be missing. Short announcements inbetween made things more easy, so that it was not a pure sequence of songs.
Just like on the first meeting five years ago, so it was also this time a really convincing show that was pure fun and forced one to sing along. What I even liked more this time compared to back then: Due to their own songs I even found this gig more convincing and by that they parted from their pure “cover band” image. Also it was this time more “serious” and not so extremely “Steel Panther” alike what became them really good. All members of the band are real stage hogs and so time flew by. So, my recommendation: Who likes this kind of music and sees that the guys are somewhere nearby, then do not hesitate and go there.
