On this evening it should get again a little bit more special. On two Wacken Open Air festivals I had already seen this Scottish combo whose name often led to irritations. This due to the fact that it is not the Californian rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers what many erroneously read but about a Scottish Rock N’ Pipes band.
Because of corona their gig at the Fabrik at Coesfeld was rescheduled and many seemed to avoid the risk of joining crowds as the gig was unfortunately not visited very well. Nevertheless, around 20:00 good mood passed its way when the seven men and one woman entered the stage and brought to peoples minds that they really were bent on their show. Besides own songs there were again and again uncommon versions of well known rock classics that one could hear. They varied between some songs being only instrumental presented, whilst on others the beautiful voice of their singer Colette Neill could be heard.
This show was taking place within their jubilee tour to their 20th anniversary. A long time out of their creative work where old classics like “High Cathedral” were presented, great cover versions like of Robin Williams “Let Me Entertain You” but also songs with local relation like Andreas Bouranis “Auf Uns”. A very entertaining evening with a usual great show. Although I have to say that none of the concerts I have seen of them was able to beat the show from the 2010 Wacken Open Air when I met them for the first time. Yes, the band gave it everything, the sound was OK but not outstanding and the vibes were due to the very meager attendance also not excellent. Nevertheless I was quite pleased with their gig and it will certainly not have been the last one. I only hope that they will find back to old strength of 12 years ago. To that time it was really another level.
