Metal Female Voices Fest IX
Oktoberhallen Wieze (Belgium)
(Pentax k-x with Tamron SP AF 17-50mm 2.8 XR Di II LD Asp IF and Sigma AF 50-150mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)
The contrast could not be any larger as after the brutal starting with the death metaller of Diary About My Nightmares the symphonic/power metaller of Operatika entered the stage.
The ragtag group brought on the one hand tracks of their up to now only relased album "The Calling" as well as two new songs of their upcoming one ("Lost City" and "In Your Eyes") as well as closure the not really convincing cover version of Dio's "We Rock" with them. The gig was not good at all. On the one hand there was guitarist Bill Visser who thought that madly fast played solos as intro to each song and if needed also inbetween would come across quite cool and virtuos: Sorry, but this is not the case. It was even enervating from time to time as they did not really fit to the song. Also singer Slava Popova may be very good vocally but with the moderate to weak songs she could not really prove that.
All in all I was quite happy when the band left the stage after their program was over. In my point of view the worst gig of the whole weekend.
