Wacken Open Air XXIII
Wacken (Germany)
(Pentax K-5 with Sigma AF 70-200mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)
As I had nothing better on my list I went in the early evening to Amaranthe. The Danish / Swedish combo played comparable to Dead By April relatively pop like metal with three singers: Andy Sovestrom for grunts whereas Jake E and Elize Ryd alternate with one another on clean sung parts.
Also for them the motto is: "Love it or hate it!". To me it is way to pop like but I have to admit that they have a quite good and convincing live performance due to which it is really worth it to watch them. It was somehow like a good mood metal musical when the three singers were swirling across the stage together with the other band members and were really well controlling the audience. No matter if it were faster pieces like the opener "Leave Everything Behind" or "Hunger" or "slower" empathic one's like "Director's Cut". Basically they played their debut album and fully caught the crowd by that. There were no pits (which would not fit at all to that music) but it was loudly sang along and clapped a lot.
To me it was again quite entertaining during their gig (at least the third already and all were equally perfect). Although it is musically not 100% mine the show they provide is each time fun again.
