After Beborn Beton, the event continued with another veteran of the Dark Wave genre. Clan Of Xymox, who were already founded in the Netherlands in 1984, can look back on a long history. Nevertheless, it was a premiere for them at the Blackfield Festival.
Given their long band history, their performance was essentially a best-of, which kicked off well with the opener "Stranger" from their 1985 debut album "Clan Of Xymox". They were not entirely spared from technical problems, which was evident in the fluctuating volume of Ronny Moorings' guitar. Otherwise, it was a solid performance for me, with a reserved stage show that wove through the band's various styles (ranging from different shades of New and Dark Wave to rock pieces) and concluded with the classic "A Day".
Personally, I found Clan Of Xymox's performance to be unspectacular, and the energy didn't quite transfer to the audience. The reactions were rather restrained compared to other bands of the day. It was to be hoped that the following band, End Of Green, would offer something more. For me, it remains that I don't necessarily need to see another performance by Clan Of Xymox.
