During the performance of Schwarzer Engel Alexx Wesselsky was standing next to me and watched the show. At that it was good to see, that he had recovered from his surgery after an intestinal perforation that happened beginning of June. Die Herren Wesselsky normally play old or rarely played songs of Megaherz and Eisbrecher paired with cover versions. Today there should be old Megaherz classics on tap.
Right in time at 14:45 the band entered the Main Stage and started fitting to the recovery of the lead singer with “Hurra – Wir Leben Noch” of the year 2000 album “Himmelfahrt”. Together with the 2002 released album “Herzwerk II” this one was forming the heart of the set. If someone did not know that Wesselsky was suffering a life-threatening sickness only some weeks ago, nobody would have thought about this. A solid performance as usual from singing as well as from physical point of view the well-trained mister was delivering to the audience. Again and again, he changed from the left to the right of the stage and vice-versa seeking the direct interaction with the listeners. It was simply pure fun listening to all the classics from early Megaherz period where Alexx was still responsible for the music. Unfortunately, also this set was not too long and so, way too early, with the oldest song of the set “Wir Sterben Jung” from the 1995 released firstling “Herzwerk” the end came.
Upfront, I was skeptical about this performance. I could not imagine, why an artist is having a solo project, where he performs old songs of the two bands in which he has played respectively is playing. It still does not really confide to me but be that as it may: The man is on stage really in a class of its own that can enthuse every last. By that it was an entertaining performance that increased the anticipation for the upcoming bands.
