Graspop Metal Meeting

Dessel (Belgium)

(Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II)

Back in the large Marquee tent, things got heavier again. Sylosis from the United Kingdom were ready to show what they could do with their blend of thrash and melodic death influences. From the original lineup, only guitarist and vocalist Josh Middleton remains — but with his massive growls, he absolutely tore the stage apart.
Founded in 2000, this was already their fourth appearance at Graspop, and they brought a set spanning all six of their albums. The current record, A Sign Of Things To Come, released in 2023, dominated the setlist. The atmosphere on and in front of the stage was strong, and Middleton growled his way through the show, supported by his bandmates Alex Bailey on rhythm guitar, Conor Marshall on bass, and Ali Richardson on drums. A few attempts at circle pits popped up here and there, but it wasn’t until the end that both the band and the crowd really ramped up, even managing a halfway decent wall of death. They also used flame columns and fireballs, which emphasized the heaviness and fit perfectly into the overall performance. Aside from the guitarist’s flying hair and the repeated calls to clap along, that was about all the on‑stage action.
I thought the guys were pretty solid, and you could clearly see how much they enjoyed playing. All in all, a good afternoon act — though I had already seen stronger performances today (regardless of genre).
