Hard rock and performances as complete works of art
The third festival day had already begun in the tent with Vowws, whose performance felt more like modern art than a concert. Afterwards, Last Train managed to impress far more, their energetic performance left no one untouched. Back in the Metal Dome, it was unusually crowded around midday. The reason was the Swedish band Self Deception. Their very pop‑leaning core metal went over well, and their stage show featured plenty of pyro effects, but overall they didn’t fully win me over.
Dirty Honey, on the other hand, delivered those laid‑back ’70s hard‑rock vibes that really hit the spot. Sylosis had played Graspop several times before, but even they didn’t completely convince me. Still, with their mix of thrash and melodic death metal, they had the tent under control in no time. After that, things turned darker again as Primordial, pioneers and founding figures of Celtic Metal, delivered a truly solid show. Toward the evening, The Dead Daisies brought another hefty dose of hard rock. The supergroup put on a strong performance, even if their material isn’t exactly groundbreaking. The Hu then turned the Marquee into a full‑on Mongolian sauna party before Korn delivered the first truly massive highlight of the day. They didn’t take risks and stuck to a best‑of set from their early years, but that didn’t matter. I was absolutely thrilled. The perfect finale came from Nine Inch Nails, who, similar to Vowws but on a much higher level, presented a stunning performance that formed a complete audiovisual work of art. Musically certainly not for everyone, but incredibly captivating and absolutely another highlight of the day.
