The second band that I was strongly waiting for. Unfortunately, bass player Peter “West” Haag died in 2023 after a short and severe sickness. The band remembered him initially with the West Fest and in 2024 they announced that the name West as well as his instrument bass will not be filled anymore. Instead, a new guitarist Annika “Rose” Jaschke was presented as backstop of the band. But before the gig could be started several things went wrong.
The banner that should cover the stage got loose during rising the traverse so that it was decided to remove it completely. After that nothing happened for a long time until with 15 minutes delay finally the unicorn entered the stage to the sounds of the intro. After it assured itself that the crowd was ready to go crazy (and who is singing loudly along the song of the gummy bears definitely is) the band members stormed onto the stage and started their powerful fireworks with “Wir Sind Gott” of the equally called 2016 album. They really brought the big guns with great stage setting and big fire show. It was loud, powerful and the band members were thrilling the audience so that this laid the first exclamation mark of the day.
Again referencing to Wests way too early passing away “Gott Muss Ein Arschloch Sein” was celebrated loudly after which they continued to work through their set with “Diego Maradona” and the Marteria cover “Kids (2 Finger An Den Kopf)”. As they started with quite a delay there was of course less time available and so the band was already forced to leave the stage after only 3o minutes but not without getting the crowd to loudly sing along the song “Es Regnet Bier” for a last time.
As already said, much had gone wrong, however, the show was excellent although I still do not fully like the lyrics of their songs. But I must highly raise my hat to the band for their great development that they have gone through. Having seen on the Wacken Open Air 2011 a band that was really putting their backs into presenting a great show also with moderate means this was today coming way more professional across but not without less efforts. Also, Rose was perfectly fitting into that group and by using the bass track from tape as well as through a huge puppet in the background of the stage bass player West was still part of the gig. The band has made its way and the crowd was enthused, however, only way too short.
