12.03.2011 - Paganfest, Turbinenhalle, Oberhausen (Germany)

Heidevolk Intro

The band Arafel around Ex-Equilibrium singer Helge I skipped (the day would anyhow be long enough) to have a short break. So I continued with the second special guest of the day: the Dutch folk metal band Heidevolk with their two singers Joris Boghtdrincker and Mark Splintervuyscht. Although they were only singing in their national language Dutch there were many people at the audience knowing the lyrics and singing along loudly.

Kivimetsän Druidi Intro

Blow on blow it directly continued after a short break for changing the stage setting with Kivimetsän Druidi. The Finnish symphonic / folk metaller around front woman Leeni-Maria Hovila entered the stage and she directly was pointing out with her outfit. A short black top with black and white ribbons and a long black skirt.

Obscurity Intro

It is long time ago since I have been at the Turbinenhalle for the last time but for this years Paganfest (at Oberhausen even in an extra long version as additionally to the normal lineup Obscurity, Heidevolk and Eluveitie are with them) it finally was again the time.

21.09.2024 Die Ärzte, animals and landscape

Die Ärzte Intro

Next, I want to upload my accumulated photos online. These are various things I did over the past year. I’ll start with the concert of the band Die Ärzte, who made a stop at the Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen in October 2023 as part of their "Herbst des Lebens" tour. I was lucky enough to see the final concert and was truly rewarded with a very comprehensive cross-section of their work.

08.09.2024 M'era Luna at Hildesheim 2. day

dArtagnan Intro

As it should be on Sunday just as warm and sunny as on Saturday, the second day started a little bit later for me. So, I was only around 14:00 in front of the Main Stage to watch an excellent gig of the band dArtagnan which could also have been one of the headliners. Afterwards, there was with Das Ich one of the old hands of the dark alternative scene on the Club Stage, before I went back to the main stage. There it continued medieval with Schandmaul. I was really happy to see front man Thomas Lindner after his cancerous disease back on stage. Unfortunately the chemotherapy had affected his voice so that he is not yet able to sing again. But ex-Russkaja front man Georgij Makazaria was perfectly able to replace him.

31.08.2024 M'era Luna at Hildesheim 1. day

Hämatom Intro

On second weekend in August the time had come: The first time on the M'era Luna festival at Hildesheim. The big meeting of the dark alternative scene at best weather. Temperatures were not yet that high but the sun was burning permanently and so there was only one thing to do: drinking, drinking and again drinking (but of course only very little alcohol). On Saturday the day started for me after that I had already been on the festival area to listen to the reading of Lydia Bennecke on Friday evening, with Schwarzer Engel, who, although it was still quite early, delivered a very impressive performance in front of a respective audience. Also Alex Wesselsky was luckily healthy again an so he could play through some older Megaherz classics together with his men.

11.08.2024 VNV Nation - M'era Luna at Hildesheim (D)

VNV Nation Intro

It is 20:45 and the M‘era Luna 2024 is slowly heading towards its end but not before regular VNV Nation has not played. That was besides Schwarzer Engel and ASP the band that I absolutely wanted to see live. Since meanwhile 34 years the project of Ronan Harris already exists and has produced 11 albums. He was supported on this evening by three musicians: one drummer and two keyboarder.

11.08.2024 Epica - M'era Luna at Hildesheim (D)

Epica Intro

I was somehow surprised. After Lord Of The Lost the field in front of the stage emptied at first but even when the first sounds of Epicas intro “Alpha Anteludium” could be heard it was still really manageable what had gathered to watch one of the biggest bands in symphonic metal. Who already had seen at least once the Dutchman live knows that there from show point of view very much is offered. This time the stage was dominated by big wheels at the sides that were turning from again and again and two gigantic snakes that even spit fog and fire from time to time. Apropos fire: Of that there is always plenty of present at Epica, so today although the temperatures were not asking for that explicitly.

Lord Of The Lost Intro

Lord Of The Lost and my ways only crossed once: 2015 on the Gelsenkirchen Blackfield Festival. To that time with only very limited resources taking place at the afternoon the concert nowadays is totally standing in contrast to it. The band is much more known today, especially due to their appearance at the European Song Contest one year ago. But back to the M’era Luna at Hildesheim.

It was quite early when I had to get up because already at 5:30 more than 500 Krefeld Pinguine supporters had to gather at the Krefeld main station to start their long trip towards Straubing at 6:00. But this was gladly accepted and so the athmosphere was excellent on the way there.

Hamburg Freezers - Krefeld Pinguine Intro

Already very early on Saturday morning a bus started form Krefeld towards the hanseatic town to first visit the monuments and on Sunday the O2 World to hopefully take the three points back home. Because of Servus TV is broadcasting live on tv the first bully was delayed by one hour. Therefore they kindly showed the prepared choreography of the motto "Ballermann 6-undreissig". Especially for this many supporters came wearing shorts and t-shirts (kudos for this because it was extremely cold outside).

09.03.2012 GEC Ritter Nordhorn - Romijnders Devils Nijmegen at the Ice Rink at Nordhorn (D)

GEC Ritter Nordhorn - Romijnder Devils Nijmegen Intro

The game was announced quite short-termed and so "only" 513 fans went to the Nordhorn Ice Rink. For the Ritter it should be the first test against an equal or even better opponent because no one else than the present champion of the Dutch 2nd division, the Romijnders Devils from Nijmegen were guest.

England Intro

This year’s summer vacation took me to the island of the United Kingdom. After initial problems due to the weather, which caused a significant delay in the departure, I finally arrived in London at night. The next day, the lively city was explored. Of course, the usual sights such as the Tower, Westminster Abbey, and Big Ben were a must. Additionally, a visit to the Natural History Museum was on the agenda.

20.05.2024 Zoo at Duisburg

Zoo Duisburg Intro

After several years, I visited the zoo in Duisburg again and I must say that a lot has changed. Like in many other zoos, the enclosures here have been enlarged and made more natural, so that not only did you have a good view of the animals, but they also had more space including retreat options.

Zoo Nordhorn Intro

Shortly after Easter I made use of a stay at Nordhorn to take a look after many years to the meanwhile extremely redesigned zoo. The zoo is not only on German side very popular but due to the neighborhood to the German-Dutch borderline also at the bordering country.
