Great Festival at the Alte Weberei at Nordhorn
It was a first for me and the third edition of the Grafschafter Metalfest. Throughout the afternoon and evening, there were many local bands as well as international guests to enjoy. The day kicked off with the guys from Lingen, A Place To Fall. Their metalcore was a strong start to the long festival day.
After them, Abrupt Demise from the Netherlands showed what Old School Death Metal is all about, before things became a bit more melodic again with Chiffre. It got noticeably darker with Rotten Demise from the Ruhr area, who delivered an impressive show in true Behemoth / Cradle of Filth style. Symbtomy probably had the longest journey of the day, coming all the way from the Czech Republic, but unfortunately struggled with technical issues and ended up delivering the weakest gig of the day. Things picked up again with Necrotesque, who also brought Old School Death Metal to the stage.
As the day went on, the bands kept getting better. Kozoria from France brought sounds reminiscent of Gojira and managed to excite the now larger crowd. The absolute highlight was Scalpture from Bielefeld, who delivered a truly captivating show. The grand finale came from Rage. There’s really not much to say about these veterans, since they were clearly in top playing form, the evening ended with nothing but happy faces.
All in all, it was an outstanding small festival that can be recommended to anyone. Next year there will be another edition, and you can already grab your tickets.
